Dr. Beverly Cheserem is an Assistant Professor and Consultant Neurosurgeon at Aga Khan
University Hospital, Nairobi, with specialist expertise in skull base and pituitary surgery,
including advanced microsurgical and endoscopic techniques. She is a Fellow of the Royal
College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) and holds a Bachelor of Medicine with Honors from the
University of Southampton, United Kingdom. She completed her neurosurgical training through
the South London Neurosurgery Rotation and undertook specialist training and fellowships in
the United Kingdom and internationally.

Her professional experience includes a Skull Base Fellowship at the University Hospital of
Wales, consultancy at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals in the UK, and a Weill Cornell
Global Health Fellowship based at Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute in Tanzania. She has also
undertaken international clinical fellowships and training experiences in Italy, France and the
United States.

Dr. Cheserem is actively engaged in global health, medical education, clinical research, surgical
leadership and mentorship. In April 2026, she was elected Vice President of the International
Society for Global Neurosurgery (ISGNS), serving on its inaugural Executive Board for the 2026–
2028 term.

She has previously served as Chair of the Kenya Association of Women Surgeons (2021–2023)
and as Vice-Chair of the Scientific Committee and Global Surgery Committee of the Surgical
Society of Kenya. She has also contributed to international global surgery initiatives, including
work focused on advancing equity and access in neurosurgical care.

Dr. Cheserem is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association of
Medical Educators (UK), Society of British Neurosurgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons,
Kenya Medical Association and Kenya Society of Hematology and Oncology. Her academic work
includes peer-reviewed research and contributions to global neurosurgery, surgical education
and health systems.

Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Cheserem is passionate about mentorship,
leadership development, education, equity and strengthening systems that expand
opportunities for future generations. Her experience in leadership, global health and
developing emerging professionals brings valuable perspective to CAVU Africa’s Board as the
organization advances its mission of empowering young people to become leaders, innovators
and active contributors to sustainable development.
