Reefs for People Campaign educates current and future policymakers in Belize

By August 24, 2011Uncategorized

Throughout the spring and summer, CAVU has continued to demonstrate its extensive community outreach programs by involving both policymakers and students. Influential leaders such as Belize’s Minister of Tourism, the President of Belize’s Hotel Association and representatives from Belize’s Tour Guide Association took part in screening events that were held in coastal communities across Belize. In addition to these current policymakers, “Someday is Now!” was shown to the country’s future policymakers: the students of Belize.

“Someday is Now!” has already been shown to over 1700 students in 26 schools around the country. Armed with the film and CAVU’s accompanying educational handouts, teachers have been able to successfully engage Belize’s future leaders in the important issues of reef health and sustainable coastal development.
