Proposed Gold Exploration Denied, Osa Peninsula

SETENA, the Costa Rican institution charged with environmental permitting, has denied a U.S. company’s request to explore for gold on the Osa Peninsula. The decision came shortly after CAVU released GPS-embedded aerial photographs taken of the proposed site. The overflight, conducted with partner Friends of the Osa, and the bulletin and high-resolution photos that followed, provided stakeholders, reporters and NGOs in Costa Rica with the information necessary to fight the exploration and subsequent mining planned for this delicate area.
