CAVU Flights Used to Help Costa Rica’s Environmental Court Fight Illegal Activity

By June 2, 2011Uncategorized

CAVU pilots Alex Cavaletti and Chris Uniacke, accompanied by photographer Sean Davis,  completed a mutli-aircraft mission carrying members of the Tribunal Ambiental (TAA) and our partner MarViva over areas of environmental concern on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula.

Briefing.07(2)

The TAA was concerned about the increase in illegal and environmentally destructive practices such as the cutting of mangrove forest habitat. As we have done on past flights with the TAA,, we were able to document the violations through the use of GPS technology and aerial photography. Projects of greatest concern were positively identified from the air, giving  the Environmental Tribunal the necessary information to effectively carry out ground based sweeps. Additional flights are planned for the Central and South pacific areas later this year.
